-------
Herb Kornfeld was born in Great Falls, Montana, and trained in Los Angeles at the Chouinard School of Art. Kornfeld has journeyed to China, Sweden, France, Greece, England, Mexico, Canada, and throughout the United States, painting the landscape and its architecture as he saw them in colorful, faceted and geometric shapes, alluding to Cubism and Impressionism.
In the latter part of his life, Kornfeld returned to California and using broad, chromatic palette, captured the brilliant light on the coast, hills, valleys of California.
With bold use of color and loose, flat brushstrokes -- Kornfeld’s uniquely modernist aesthetic presents each piece as a visually arresting interpretation of the landscape. His sheer virtuosity in style and imaginative use of color and brushwork makes each piece an imaginative passionate response of his interpretation of the landscape.
Kornfeld's paintings can be found in private and public collections throughout the world.
A selection of his exhibitions include – the Long Beach Museum of Art, The Downey Museum of Art, The U. S. Navy Museum (Washington D.C), Charles M. Russell Museum, Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, The American Academy of Arts, and UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund Tour)- International Tour.
